Nov. 06, 2024

In the world of hockey, stories of determination and passion often emerge from unexpected places. One such story is that of our very own Team NT Jaci Dusome, an 18-year-old center from Yellowknife, makes waves in the southern hockey scene. Currently playing for the Central Alberta Amazons and serving as a practice player for the RDP Queens Hockey Team, Jaci's journey is a testament to her dedication and love for the game.

Jaci's hockey journey began at the tender age of three, and over the past 14 years, she has honed her skills and developed a deep passion for the sport. Inspired by trailblazers like Annie King and Anna MacCara, Jaci aspired to follow in their footsteps and make her mark in the hockey world.

This year, Jaci made the significant move to Alberta to pursue junior A hockey while also working towards her degree in kinesiology and sports studies. "The main reasons for my move were to play at a higher level and to further my education," she explains. This decision reflects her commitment to both her athletic and academic aspirations.

Growing up in the Northwest Territories, Jaci credits her upbringing for shaping her into the player she is today. "Hockey in the NWT has been a significant part of my upbringing," she shares. "The support of so many caring coaches has made hockey NT like a family to me." This strong foundation has not only influenced her skills on the ice but has also instilled in her a sense of community and belonging.

Representing the Northwest Territories while playing in Alberta holds a special significance for Jaci. "It means a lot to me to represent Team NT in Alberta," she says. "I have always played hockey for the NWT, and I will always be proud to have been a part of the hockey family in NWT." Her pride in her roots shines through, reminding us of the importance of community and representation in sports.

As Jaci continues her journey, she has a message for young girls in the Northwest Territories, especially her younger sister and the Spitfires team: "Believe that your dreams are achievable with hard work. Keep playing hockey, ladies!" Her encouragement serves as a beacon of hope and inspiration for aspiring athletes, proving that with dedication and perseverance, anything is possible.

Jaci Dusome is not just a player; she is a role model, a trailblazer, and a proud representative of the Northwest Territories. As she continues to chase her dreams on the ice, we can only anticipate the incredible impact she will have on the sport and the young athletes who look up to her.
