A New Year of Opportunity for Hockey NWT

Dec. 31, 2025

As we step into the new year, Hockey NWT looks ahead with excitement, purpose, and a strong sense of momentum.

One of the highlights on the horizon is the Arctic Winter Games, where northern athletes will once again come together to compete, connect, and represent their communities with pride. The Games continue to inspire young players across the Northwest Territories, reminding them that their hockey journey can reach far beyond their local rink.

In the coming year, we are also looking forward to more minor hockey tournaments hosted in communities across the territory. These events are about more than competition. They create opportunities for families to come together, for youth to build friendships, and for communities to celebrate the game in ways that are uniquely northern.

We are especially excited for pond hockey in Hay River, a true northern tradition that brings hockey back to its roots. Pond hockey captures the joy, creativity, and accessibility of the game, and we look forward to seeing players of all ages taking part.

At the same time, Hockey NWT continues to prepare for the future. The work toward the 2027 Canada Winter Games is already underway, focusing on long term athlete development, strong coaching, and meaningful pathways for young players. These efforts ensure that our athletes are supported not just for the next event, but for years to come.

As the new year begins, we remain committed to growing the game, strengthening communities, and creating positive experiences for everyone involved in hockey across the Northwest Territories.
