Ellie Loutitt Commits to Lake Superior State University

Nov. 27, 2025

The Northwest Territories has another reason to celebrate. Yellowknife’s own Ellie Loutitt has committed to Lake Superior State University to play ACHA Division 1 Women’s Hockey, marking a major milestone in her already impressive hockey journey.

Ellie grew up in the Yellowknife Wolfpack system, competing in both female and co-ed divisions and embracing every challenge thrown her way. In her final year of minor hockey, she balanced an extraordinary schedule, playing U15 with the Senior Female team, her U18 team, and the Yellowknife Women’s League. Her work ethic, consistency, and quiet determination became her signature traits on and off the ice.

Ellie has proudly represented the Northwest Territories on many occasions. She was selected for the 2020 Arctic Winter Games, then competed in the 2023 Arctic Winter Games where she earned a Silver Medal, the 2024 Arctic Winter Games, and the 2023 Canada Winter Games. Each event helped shape her into the strong, confident player she is today.

After graduating high school, Ellie moved on to the Alberta Junior Female Hockey League where she continued growing her game at the junior level. She played her first season with the Calgary Titans, then joined the Central Alberta Amazons, where she has played for one season and strengthened her skills, speed, and competitive intensity.

Her commitment to Lake Superior State University is the result of years of grit, training sessions, long travel days, and a belief in what is possible for athletes from the North. It is also a celebration of every coach, family member, teammate, and community that supported her along the way.

“I am very happy and excited to join the Lakers next season and gain experience at the US College level. I feel very fortunate and recognize that I could not have made it this far without the support and coaching in the NWT and want to thank the many people that contributed to my success. I always took the opportunity to represent my home Territory with a lot of pride and treated it as a true honour.”

The NWT is proud of Ellie. Her journey reminds young players across the territory that dreams can begin in small rinks, school gyms, frozen outdoor pads, and backroad communities. With commitment and heart, those dreams can carry you far. Congratulations Ellie. Your next chapter begins now, and the North is cheering for you.
