Hockey holds a special place in Northern communities, weaving together generations through shared memories of teamwork, learning, and pride. At Hockey NWT, we believe that every child should be able to access the joy and life lessons of the game, regardless of background or circumstance.
Our programs aim to do more than teach skills on the ice, they foster leadership, sportsmanship, and belonging. Coaches, volunteers, and families across the NWT create safe and welcoming arenas where youth can thrive.
On September 30th, Truth and Reconciliation Day, we pause to honour the experiences of Indigenous children and their families. We recognize that sport can be a powerful space for healing and for building bridges of respect.
Today, we recommit to working with communities, Elders, and partners to ensure Hockey remains a sport of inclusion, safety, and opportunity. By putting youth at the center of every decision, we can help them grow not just as athletes, but as confident and resilient leaders in their communities.
