Play Smart. Stay Safe. Learn About Concussions in Hockey.

Sep. 22, 2025

As hockey season gets underway across the Northwest Territories, Hockey NWT joins Hockey Canada in promoting safe play on and off the ice. While hockey is fast, exciting, and full of energy, it’s also a sport that teaches respect. Respect for the game, for opponents, and for ourselves.

That’s why we’re proud to highlight Hockey Canada’s Concussion Awareness App, a tool designed to help players, parents, coaches, and volunteers understand the signs of concussions, how to prevent them, and what to do if they occur.

Why it matters:

Head injuries can be serious. But when we play the game with respect and by the rules, we help reduce the risk. The app provides quick access to essential concussion information, including:

  • Signs and symptoms of a concussion

  • Responsible return-to-play guidelines

  • A special kids’ version featuring Puckster and an interactive respect-based game

 Download the app:

Visit www.hockeycanada.ca/apps to download the free app and explore the full Concussion Toolbox.

Parents:

Take a moment to explore the app with your child. It’s an easy and fun way to talk about safety and the importance of playing with care.

Coaches and volunteers:

Use the app as part of your team’s safety approach. It’s a great resource to keep in your toolkit throughout the season.

Let’s make this hockey season one to remember, for the right reasons. Play hard, play smart, and play safe.
