Abby Webster Named 2025 BFL Women in Coaching Award Recipient

Sep. 05, 2025

Hockey NWT proudly congratulates Abby Webster on being named a recipient of the 2025 BFL Women in Coaching Award, a recognition from Hockey Canada that celebrates women leaders making a difference in their communities and across the country.

For Abby, the award is both humbling and energizing. “It’s amazing that I was nominated for this award. Being recognized as a successful coach is a huge honor, let alone an award from Hockey Canada,” she shares.

Her coaching journey has always been inspired by the joy of youth athletes. “The smiles on their faces and the laughs shared between teammates are the biggest reward. I can prepare the best practices and game plans I can, but it’s those moments that matter most.”

One story stands out in particular. At a tournament last season, Abby’s team faced a tough start and fell behind early. During the intermission, she gave the players two options: give up, or battle through. They chose the latter. “We didn’t win, but watching them play with so much heart and determination was bigger than winning that game,” Abby recalls.

To women considering coaching, Abby’s advice is simple: “If you’re nervous to start, don’t overthink it, just jump in. You’ll do better than you think, and there will always be support around you. It’s incredibly rewarding.”

Her own journey has been shaped by the mentorship of others. She credits Kaylee Grant, who coached her growing up, as a major influence in starting her path. Coaching alongside Sarah Fleming in her first year also gave her the guidance and confidence to grow.

Abby Webster’s recognition is not just an award—it’s a reflection of her passion, leadership, and the impact she continues to make on athletes in the Northwest Territories. Hockey NWT celebrates Abby’s achievements and looks forward to seeing her inspire the next generation of athletes and coaches.
