On May 5, Hockey NWT stands alongside communities across the North and Canada in recognizing National MMIWG2S Awareness Day, also known as Red Dress Day.
This day honours the memory of the thousands of missing and murdered Indigenous women, girls, two-spirit, and gender-diverse people.
It is a time to reflect on the urgent need for change, awareness, and action to end the violence faced by Indigenous communities.
We are guided by Call to Action 41 of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada, which called for a national inquiry into missing and murdered Indigenous women and girls — a call that continues to demand our collective attention and responsibility.
At Hockey NWT, we believe in building safe spaces, not just on the ice, but in every part of our communities.
We honour the strength, resilience, and spirit of Indigenous peoples today and every day.
